Tips for Job Seekers

Walking Into Forge Industrial Staffing Prepared

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Staffing agencies are here to help people be successful and find work. They give you the opportunity to showcase your skills to some of the top companies in the area. There’s also a great opportunity for growth within a staffing agency. Though you are likely to start off as a temporary employee, there’s the possibility of becoming a long-term one.

Our Service Coordinators at Forge Industrial Staffing don’t really know you, or your capabilities. They’re going to start off by having you apply, so that they can get some more information about you. Forge Industrial Staffing requires that applicants be at least 18-years-old and be able to provide two forms of employee verification in order to apply. We will also ask the three following questions in order to get a better understanding of which positions are going to fit you best.

Questions they may ask :

  • What’s your availability like?  Since there are so many job opportunities at different times of the day, a Service Coordinator is going to want to find a position that fits your schedule. They understand that you may have a family to take care of outside of work and want to do the best they can giving you the best work opportunities available. Many staffing agencies offer 1st, 2nd, and 3rd shift opportunities, giving everyone the opportunity to work if they wanted too.
  • Do you have reliable transportation? Not every job opportunity is located on the bus line, so it’s important for a service coordinator to know if you have a reliable form of transportation or not. If you don’t have a reliable form of transportation, they’re not going to be able to offer you a job that isn’t located on the bus line. They’ll be able to find you jobs that better fit your needs if they know of your transportation situation.
  • When can you start?  This question plays into your availability. New jobs are always becoming available, meaning you have a higher chance of starting sooner than later. You’re going to want to make sure that you know you’re time commitment to a job before you start it. If you know you’re going to be busy tomorrow for a certain time period, you will not want to agree to start a job then. Our Service Coordinators are going to want to know the earliest you can start and what shift is going to work best for you, so they can fit the job availability to your schedule.

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or right employees for you.

Job Fair Preparation Tips

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Did you know that each of our Forge Industrial Staffing locations participate in multiple job fairs a month? Job fairs are a great tool for us to use when assisting our clients in filling their staffing needs, and it’s a great way for those seeking employment to get information about various job opportunities. Since there are so many people that visit these job fairs, it’s more than likely that there will be people interested in the same opening as you. At an event like this, it’s important that you stand out from the crowd. Forge has come up with some tips below that should help get you noticed for all the right reasons.

Dress Appropriately

While the advice to dress for success is an old saying, it couldn’t be more appropriate for an event like a job fair. You only get one chance to make a first impression on someone and that someone could potentially be your next employer. It’s important that you dress appropriately. The best thing to keep in mind is to dress as if you were going in for an interview. Be sure to choose clothing that is simple, conservative and appropriate for the job you want.

Polish Your Resume

When visiting a job fair, it’s important that you bring multiple resumes with you, so that you can leave one with each company or staffing agency you talk too. By doing this, you’re reassured knowing that they physically have something of yours that they can remember you by. Before visiting the job fair you’re going to want to polish up your resume. Make sure it’s up-to-date with your skills, and experience listed from most recent to least recent. All experience is good experience, so it’s important that you include any and every job opportunity that you’ve had.

Conduct Yourself Professionally

Once you have the opportunity to speak with someone, be sure to be polite and discuss ways you feel your experience can benefit them. If you’ve done research beforehand about a specific position you’re looking into, or a company you want to work for, make sure you use that knowledge to provide specific examples of the ways you feel you will be an asset. Learn more about how the hiring process with the company works to be sure you’re as prepared as possible.

Confidence is Key

It’s important to be confident when visiting a job fair. This is not an event that you want to display any shyness. Approach each person you meet with a firm handshake and direct eye contact. Introduce yourself with a well-rehearsed pitch that quickly sells you as a potential employee and be sure to address the company representative with respect at all times.

Follow Up

During your time at the job fair, you’ll want to be sure to get the phone number of the companies or staffing agency you’re interested in and spoken with, so that you can follow up with them a few days after the event. You’re probably going to get a decent amount of information about application process, so make sure to take notes, or get a pamphlet if they have one as well.

Follow these Forge tips and an agency, such as ourselves, is sure to decide you’re the right one to fill their staffing needs. The right employment opportunity may be waiting for you at a job fair in your area.

Get Instant Access to Your Money on Pay Day

By | Tips for Employers, Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

One of the many benefits of employment through Forge Industrial Staffing is getting paid weekly. We understand how important your finances are to you, so instead of waiting 2 weeks or more to get paid, our employees are paid on a weekly basis. We also understand that it’s not always possible to stop in the office to pick up your check on payday, so that’s why we offer the option of direct deposit and paycards.

PayCard by Mastercard gives you the opportunity to have access to your money instantly the morning of pay day. Instead of having to stop in the office for a physical check, or setting up a bank account for direct deposit, you can have your pay automatically deposited to a paycard that can be used the same day.

By having the paycard you are eliminating the hassle of stopping in the office to pick up your check, standing in line to cash it, the check-cashing fee that comes along with that, and more importantly, losing your check.

PayCard allows you to have access to your money when it’s convenient for you. Use the card at an ATM to get cash, or use it to shop at your favorite stores, including online. You can also use the paycard to pay bills and get cash back at participating merchants. Use the card wherever Debit Mastercard is accepted.

There’s no cost to enroll and there’s no credit check required. For more details about paycards, please contact your local forge office.

Opportunities with Forge Industrial Staffing

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Job searching can be an overwhelming process, especially when you’ve spent months focusing on it. You’ve applied for numerous jobs, but haven’t heard back from any of them. This happens to more people than you think, so don’t let this discourage you; you’re not alone. If you feel you’ve wasted countless  hours of your day searching for jobs, it may be time to look into getting some assistance with that step. That’s what we are here for.

Did you know that many companies don’t post their available positions for people to openly apply to? These companies don’t want to go through the extra steps of the hiring process, such as the pre-screening process and interviews. Instead, they leave the work to a staffing agency, to find the best people to fill those positions and take care of the other aspects of the hiring process.

Specialized staffing agencies, like us, get to know the personality and skill set of each of the job seekers they work with. By understanding who you are and matching you with the various job opportunities they currently know about, they are able to place a new hire in far less time than traditional methods. Forge Industrial Staffing is the most responsive provider of light industrial and manufacturing staffing. We specialize in providing employees on all shifts to manufacturing and warehouse facilities.

Staffing agencies, such as our self, can assist with various job seeker situations. To meet your expectations we both need to have a clear understanding of your specific needs. With that information, we can provide a tailored staffing solution to satisfy your own unique needs.  If you’re looking for temporary or contract work we can find those opportunities for you. With temporary work, the employee and employer have the chance to determine if it’s a good match. The company may then decide to offer the employee a permanent position if they feel the employee is a good fit. With contracted work, a company will bring in employees for a set amount of time, or month-to-month. These type of positions typically don’t evolve into permanent positions.

If you’re tired of handling the job search all on your own, maybe it’s time to take advantage of our free service. No matter the type of position you’re looking for, we’d be happy to assist you in your search!

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or right employees for you.

Light Industrial Work and the Skills Required

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Light Industrial Work and the Skills Required

Forge Industrial Staffing is the most responsive provider of light industrial and manufacturing staffing, but what kind of jobs does that include exactly? I bet we could guess what image popped into your head first when you heard the word, “industrial.” Probably a person in a hard hat, loading and unloading heavy objects and working with big machinery? In some cases, these are the people that work within the industrial field, but not always. Many of the jobs we offer don’t require you to use heavy machinery, great physical strength, or have an extensive skill set.

The jobs we offer are usually entry-level that don’t require specific knowledge or skills to be placed. Jobs within the industrial field include, production line work, order fulfillment, packaging, shipping, maintenance, assembly etc. For people who have more experience and knowledge of handling machinery, other options include driving a forklift, hi-lo, welding etc. If you’re interested in getting a job within the industrial field, whether that be for temporary work or full-time, you will need to express certain traits and interests in order to be considered.

It’s important that you have a strong work ethic and the ability to self-motivate. Part of this responsibility includes the ability to get tasks done on time. Not getting your tasks done on time could directly affect other works and their ability to complete their own responsibilities. This falls more into play for warehouse and production line positions. If you don’t fill order quickly enough, the shipping department won’t be able to send out what they need to, creating a backup and creating a fall in production numbers.

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or right employees for you.

Here at Forge, we offer a variety of positions in various fields, such as, automotive, assembly, warehouse, greenhouse etc. Though many of the positions we offer may not relate to your area of studies, it’s still beneficial to get the experience, while making some money searching for your dream job. 5 Ways to Make a Good Impression

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

You may think that a job interview is just an employer’s way of assessing your skills, but in reality it’s more than that. One of the benefits of an interview is allowing the employer to get to know your personality and character through the way you respond to questions and your body language. Though your skills are a very important aspect to whether or not you are qualified for the job, it’s not the only aspect for employers to pay attention too. It’s important that candidates make a good impression on the employer and it’s equally important to continue making a good impression once you’ve been assigned to work. Below are a few ways you can make a good impression.

Appearance

Employers can make a good judgement of your character based on you look for an interview. It’ll be beneficial to you that employers know you took the time to look nice for your first meeting with them. It’s better to be overdressed than underdressed.

Arrive on Time

Being on time is possibly the most important part of the interview process. You can almost guarantee that you’re not going to get the job if you’re late to an interview. The employer is putting their time to meet with you and you’re wasting it by being late, or not showing up at all. Arriving 15 minutes early to the job interview/first day will show that your interest and eager to work. Arriving early also gives you the opportunity to gather yourself before the interview begins.

Be Confident

As mentioned before, an employer can get a good idea of your personality and character by the way you respond to questions and your body language. When meeting with the employer, it’s important that you maintain eye contact and sit up straight; this will help you appear more confident. There’s a possibility you get asked questions that you’re unsure of how to answer; when this happens, just be honest and say you don’t know. Saying you don’t know avoids the possibility of you getting nervous and fumbling for an answer. It’s important you do some research about the company beforehand, so if an employer asks you what you know about the company, you won’t be at a loss.

Ask Good Questions

When meeting with an employer for the first time you’re more than likely going to be asked if you have any questions about the company. Even if you feel sure that you know all of the information, you should still come up with something to ask. Researching the company beforehand gives you the opportunity to come up with questions beforehand. If you can’t think of any questions, a good one to use is, “what challenges will I face if I’m hired?”

Show Appreciation

Always, always thank the person you met with that day. Thanking them will leave the employer with better impression of you. If you have the possibility of emailing them after meeting them, always do so. Thank them again and make sure you express that you’re grateful for the time they spent out of their day with you.

Job Tips for Felons

By | Job Tips, Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Getting a job can be difficult for anyone, and it’s especially hard for felons. If you have a felony on your record, that does not mean that you can’t get a job and should give up. It does means that you have to work harder at it – which you can do. There are, in fact, good job opportunities out there. Here are some tips to help you get hired.

Polish Your Resume

Before you begin searching for jobs and going through the interview process, it’s important to have a polished resume prepared. There are a few different ways to organize a resume, but your best bet is the functional resume, which emphasizes your skills, education, volunteer work and other contributions over your previous employment. It doesn’t leave your employment history out, though, and you may still be asked to explain gaps in your employment history. But the functional resume plays to your strengths and helps focus the discussion on what you can do, rather than what you have done.

You should be ready to provide a few great references – people who can vouch for your integrity or skills. Don’t put them on your resume. Put their names, contact information, and a one-line explanation of how they know you on a separate document that you can provide if you’re asked for references. Ask their permission before you include them, and make sure they’ll provide a good, honest appraisal.

Look Your Best

When you’re interviewing for a job, it’s essential to be polished and professional. People do judge others on their appearance, often without knowing they’re doing it. The way you look is bound to influence their opinion, so be clean, well-groomed, and dress a little better than you expect to on the job.

The same applies to your speech and manners. No one expects you to speak like a poet or a professor, but they do expect you to express yourself calmly and respectfully.

Be Honest

Many employers do background checks. You don’t have to spill the beans unless you’re asked, but if you are asked about felonies or about an unexplained gap in your employment history, you must tell the truth. Doing so shows integrity and that works in your favor. If you’re caught in a lie, there’s no way you’ll be hired.

Check out Staffing Agencies

It’s a common misconception that all staffing agencies do criminal background checks. Here at Forge, we pursue an active policy to help those with felony records get jobs and get back on their feet. While background checks are required for some jobs, there are employers who will consider people with certain types of criminal convictions. A felony doesn’t have to be a deal-killer.

Like every other job seeker, you can’t expect to be hired right into your dream job. Your goal is to get started in a good job, and if you perform well there, you might be able to step up later to a better position at the same company, or move on to another one based on your good record. Once you’re in your first post-conviction job, you may come into contact with coworkers or supervisors who can provide support and help you progress.

Don’t Get Discouraged

It’s easy to get discouraged and want to give up, but quitting isn’t an option. You have every reason to feel hopeful. There are plenty of people with felonies who have turned their lives around. You might not qualify for every type of job imaginable, but does anyone? Keep a positive perspective, believe in yourself, and know that you have great things to offer.

You’ll make it, and we can help. If you’re ready to take the next step toward a brighter future, please contact Forge Industrial Staffing.

Five Personal Qualities Every Employer Wants to Hire

By | Job Tips, Tips for Employers, Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Hiring managers are human beings, so they all have personal likes, dislikes, preferences and points of view. But there are five characteristics that every manager wants to see in every new hire. You’ll stand a better chance of being hired if you emphasize these qualities when you write your resume or go in for an interview.

Communication Skills

This is near the top of virtually every manager’s list, and it appears in most help-wanted ads, because it truly is one of the most important skills a worker can have. In any position that interacts with customers or clients, it’s crucial to listen critically and sensitively, to understand not only what the customer says, but also what he means but doesn’t say. (Think about the last time you ate a disappointing meal in a restaurant. When the waitress asked how it was, you probably said “fine.” Did she read beneath the surface and try to make things better for you, even though you didn’t complain?)

You also need to listen to and understand supervisors and co-workers, and you need to be able to communicate your own observations and points of view clearly and diplomatically. Being able to participate in true two-way communication is a real necessity for most jobs.

Reliability

Employers need to know you’ll be there. Everyone has an occasional personal emergency that might throw a wrench in your schedule, but desirable workers make sure those instances are truly rare. Get sufficient sleep so you can get up on time and work effectively when you’re on the job. Have a system worked out to get the kids off to school and picked up in the afternoon. Have reliable child care and transportation worked out. You shouldn’t have to take multiple phone calls on the job every day to make arrangements: these things should all be settled the night before.

Flexibility

The days of bolting on an unending stream of left front wheels all day long on an assembly line are long gone from most jobs. Even in mass production, workers are now expected to turn to different tasks frequently, and in most occupations and work settings, work changes almost constantly. An effective employee can learn new tasks quickly and shift gears easily. In fact, a variety of work is a great thing for most employees. It keeps the job interesting, and having to learn new skills means that your value as an employee is constantly increasing.

Initiative

This can be summed up by the phrase “See what needs to be done, and do it.” Effective workers take the initiative to constantly improve their own skills and processes, correct problems, and call attention to issues that are beyond their ability or authority to address on their own. You don’t wait to be told – you’re a doer.

Cooperativeness

All of the above are part of getting along with everyone on the job: supervisors, co-workers, and customers. No one gets to have everything their own way – even the boss is answerable to someone. Employable workers can accept supervision and criticism, and they’re willing to follow someone else’s procedures to achieve someone else’s goals without complaint. Sometimes this requires teamwork and cooperation with peers. Sometimes it’s following instructions to the best of your ability. And sometimes it means taking initiative, being creative, and doing more than you were told to do.

No one has all these qualities in perfect measure, but good employees try to maximize them for the sake of the job. Let prospective employers know your strengths in these areas, and let them know you understand their importance.
