Employee Skills Required to be a Food Packager

April 12, 2021

We are currently seeking to fill multiple Food Packager openings with our client companies located throughout Indiana and Michigan. When searching our jobs on our website, you may find that Food Packager positions may also be titled, Packager, Packer and Material Handler. Food Packager positions can also be offered on 1st, 2nd and 3rd shifts.

Responsibilities of Food Packagers depend on the client and their needs, but most Packager positions include handling raw and cooked products, packing, pulling, or packaging products and/or other materials by hand. You may also be loading, packing, packaging, measuring, counting, sealing, scanning, weighing, labeling, assembling cartons, boxes, totes, or containers according to specifications in a large food production area. It is important that Food Packagers keep designated areas clean and orderly by cleaning the production floor, shoveling, squeegeeing, gathering and emptying trash. This may require you to use a cardboard baler or trash compactor.

Just like the responsibilities of Food Packagers, the requirements also vary depending on our client’s needs for a specific employee. For most Food Packager positions, you must be able to work in a colder environment and work overtime as needed. In most cases, these positions are entry level and you will not be required to have any previous experience in the industry. It is also important that all our Forge Industrial Staffing employees perform their jobs safely while adhering to company safety standards.

The compensation for Food Packager positions varies depending on the client, but the benefits offered by Forge are the same for each job and employee. In order to become eligible for insurance, you must work an average of 30 hours per week for a 60 day time frame. Once you meet those requirements you will become eligible for insurance and your coverage will start on the 1st day of the month following your 60th day of employment. The other benefits of working through Forge include: paid holidays, vacation pay, health insurance, referral bonus program, employee of month and employee appreciation days. Paydays are weekly and you will have the option of getting paid by direct deposit or Rapid paycard, having access to your money that same day.
