3 Tips for better job-seeking habits in the New Year

December 28, 2020

With the arrival of a new year, comes an opportunity to start fresh, wipe the slate clean and begin taking control of your career. Why not resolve to improve your job seeking skills and find a rewarding career in 2021?

Here are 3 tips for making better job seeking habits in the New Year.

Learn to manage your time better. Time management is a common New Year’s resolution. Set a daily, weekly and monthly schedule for yourself. In this schedule, set time to make phone calls to those in your network, volunteer at local organizations related to your industry and spend time managing and connecting with your online network on sites, like LinkedIn.

Update your resume and your elevator speech. With a new year comes an opportunity to evaluate everything that you’ve accomplished over the last 12 months. Take time to review your resume, your elevator speech and any online profiles or portfolios to ensure that all information is up to date and relevant. You’d be surprised to learn how much you can add after a year.

Continue to educate yourself. Use the New Year to attend classes, seminars and online courses. This will not only give you a greater shot at attracting the job you want, but it will also allow you to connect with other people and give you a fresh perspective on your industry.
