Many children are being home schooled at the moment and by now most parents are realizing that being a teacher is a harder job than they had thought. Learning from home creates different challenges that wouldn’t necessarily be a problem while physically in school. Children get distracted and comfortable in their own home, not realizing that education still needs to be a priority during times like these. Though there are challenges to adjust to and overcome, there shouldn’t be a reason your children’s education is halted. Back in the day being able to teach from home would be much trickier, why? Because we didn’t have the advanced technology that we do today. Technology gives you a great opportunity to continue feeding your children knowledge through different ways of learning.
You’ve probably spent a decent amount of time seeking out online resources, apps, games etc. to keep your children’s minds engaged while spending so much time at home. There are several free or discounted online learning resources for pre-K-12 to choose from to keep up on learning. Below is a list of a couple online learning resources that you can take advantage of, as well as a link to an extensive list of education companies offering free subscriptions.

Does your child love learning about animals? There are multiple zoos and aquariums all over the country doing their best to fill the void of children’s activities with “home safaris,” virtual tours and webcams. Children have the opportunity to watch some of their favorite animals being interacted with by zookeepers while learning some new facts about them. Below is a list of several zoos and aquariums currently participating in these home safaris.
Many museums are also offering tours that you can enjoy from home. Below is a link to some museums offering these virtual tours.
Need another idea to keep your children, (and maybe you) entertained? Check out the Save With Stories Instagram account. Save With Stories was launched by Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams. It raises money for the organizations Save the Children and No Kid Hungry. The account itself has multiple videos of celebrities reading children’s books aloud to entertain, educate and distract kids and parents who are practicing social distancing. Who doesn’t love watching videos of their favorite celebrities?
