By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

With the arrival of a new year, comes an opportunity to start fresh, wipe the slate clean and begin taking control of your career. Why not resolve to improve your job seeking skills and find a rewarding career in 2021?

Here are 3 tips for making better job seeking habits in the New Year.

Learn to manage your time better. Time management is a common New Year’s resolution. Set a daily, weekly and monthly schedule for yourself. In this schedule, set time to make phone calls to those in your network, volunteer at local organizations related to your industry and spend time managing and connecting with your online network on sites, like LinkedIn.

Update your resume and your elevator speech. With a new year comes an opportunity to evaluate everything that you’ve accomplished over the last 12 months. Take time to review your resume, your elevator speech and any online profiles or portfolios to ensure that all information is up to date and relevant. You’d be surprised to learn how much you can add after a year.

Continue to educate yourself. Use the New Year to attend classes, seminars and online courses. This will not only give you a greater shot at attracting the job you want, but it will also allow you to connect with other people and give you a fresh perspective on your industry.

The benefits of a personalized staffing agency

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

For growing companies and job seekers, it may seem that approaching a large staffing agency is the right idea. After all, they must have a talented, knowledgeable workforce with an endless library of resources to help you find the best match. However, it’s not always that simple, and often small to mid-sized staffing agencies can provide the personal care and experience to make hiring and job hunting a less stressful process.

Why might a large agency be the wrong choice, and what are the benefits of working with a more personalized staffing agency?

While large scale agencies have access to vast stacks of resumes and are responsible for knowing what’s happening in the employment industry, often times these agencies struggle to recruit top talent. This is because these agencies are legally prohibited from targeting anyone that is an employee of one of their current clients. Larger agencies that work with many large-scale companies in a specific area are significantly restricted in the talent they can approach.

Smaller or specialized agencies, on the other hand, have access to a much larger talent pool and are able to find qualified employees to fit each position.

Job placement at large staffing agency can be similar to a factory assembly line where each company and job seeker is treated the same way with the goal being to simply make the placement and move on.

At a smaller agency, the agency will work with each individual as well as each company to ensure that a proper match has been made. Smaller agencies base their success on the quality of the placements rather than the quantity.

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or the right employees for you.

No matter where you are in your job search, whether you’re just starting out or you’re just looking for a better opportunity, Forge Industrial Staffing has hundreds of positions to meet every need. Experience the Forge difference today and see how we are Changing Lives, One Job at a Time.

By | Tips for Employers | No Comments

Anyone who has run or has started a successful business knows that one of the most important skills is determining when you should defer to someone else that may be more knowledgeable, have more experience or have more resources. Whether this means bringing in an outside accountant, hiring an independent sales representative or working with a staffing industry.

Staffing agencies are useful resources for companies that do not have the time or ability to review all potential new hires. When working with a staffing agency, experienced professionals will perform the interview and selection process for you, ensuring that you will receive experienced and capable workers who will help you company as soon as you need them.

If your company is expecting a large growth period but realizes that business will level off after a few months, hiring temporary staff through a staffing agency will fulfill these needs without the hassle of having to let staff go. 4 Reasons Employers Should Use a Staffing Agency

By | Tips for Employers | No Comments

Staffing agencies serve a number of purposes to both the job seeker as well as the employer with positions to fill, but it may not always be clear why an employer should choose to work with an agency. We’ve put together a few key reasons that staffing agencies can be a great asset to those looking to hire.

Saving time is one of the biggest reasons employers work with staffing agents to fill open positions. It can be costly for a company to pull an employee from normal duties to go through stacks of applications and resumes. Between advertising the position, making phone calls, interviews, reference checks, background checks and drug tests, the hours can easily pile up.

Staffing agencies are also experts at finding the right person for the job. Their focus and revenue is completely spent recruiting and placing employees.

Staffing agencies generally have more advanced employee-screening techniques than most companies. Our goal is to find the right candidates for each position. We know that testing modules, interviewing techniques, employment reference checks and understanding our customer’s company culture are all critical to the process.

Finally, we understand that not every open position at a company is a permanent one. Contracts and assignments may be temporary and staffing agencies are a great way to satisfy these needs.

Working with a staffing agency is like working with a business partner who understands your needs.

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or the right employees for you.

Finding a job based on your skills

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

For anyone who has been without work after many years in one position because the particular position has become outdated or the company has shifted, it may be overwhelming looking for a new job. Spending most of your career in one position may convince you that that is the only job you are capable of doing. Your first step should be to shake this belief and understand that your extensive experience can be translated into valuable skills.

Sit down with a computer or a piece of paper and make a list of the types of things you did while in your old position. Did you have to enter information into a computer system each day as smaller piece of your overall duties? Data entry can be added to your skill set. Were you willing to do whatever needed to be done around the office or warehouse with a strong attention to detail? You may make a valuable office or administrative assistant.

If you’re having a difficult time compiling a list, there are resources available to assist you.

Visit your local staffing or employment agency or career center. These organizations are full of knowledgeable teams that can help you.

Use an online resource like:

http://www.iseek.org/careers/skillsAssessment

http://www.myskillsmyfuture.org/

http://www.careerinfonet.org/skills/

These sites ask you simple questions about your previous jobs to help you discover what other opportunities might make sense for you.

5 Tips for crafting a winning resume

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Regardless of the type of position you’re seeking, either with a staffing agency or Fortune 500 company, the process is generally the same. You’ll want to spend time crafting a strong resume that identifies your marketable skills and matches the needs of the potential employer.

Here are 5 tips to keep in mind when you’re writing your resume.

Keep it simple
For job seekers with less than 10 years of experience, a resume should not exceed one page.

Use a simple layout
A layout should provide essential information like updated contact information, an objective, work experience, education history and a list of references.

Provide concise descriptions
Human resource teams are searching through mountains of resumes and job applications. Make their lives easier by boiling your qualifications and previous job descriptions into short, to-the-point statements.

Use industry-specific keywords
When reading job listings, identify specific keywords related to the position and its responsibilities. Use terms that apply to you directly in the document. Many large companies use computers to pre-scan these documents in search of these keywords. If your resume doesn’t contain these terms, it may be tossed aside.

Don’t undervalue your cover letter
A cover letter allows you to personalize your resume. Its main purpose is to emphasize your strengths and assets in a way that will interest employers in interviewing you. This gives employers an opportunity to get a feel for who you are as a person beyond your job experience and skills.

At Forge Industrial Staffing, we pride ourselves on having the resources of a large-scale staffing agency while having the personal touch of a specialty agency. Our qualified staff will work with you to find the right job, or the right employees for you.

Getting organized to meet with a staffing agency

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Agencies are here to help you be successful and find work, but there are things you can do ahead of time to help increase your chances for finding the right fit. Taking time to prepare for these frequently asked questions is a great way to get a head start when seeking work through an agency.

What is your availability?

The staffing agency will be interested in when and how often you’re able to work. They will likely ask if you are interested in short-term and/or long-term positions. Being honest about what you’re able to commit to will help prevent conflicts in the future. Try to be flexible. If you’re able to work nights and weekends this may open up more opportunities.

What are your skills?

You should already have many, if not all, of these skills listed on your resume, and the interviewer should have a copy. This is an opportunity to elaborate on what is on your resume, to show that you are willing to sell yourself beyond what is on a sheet of paper. Discuss any administrative experience, data entry or work with word processing or spreadsheets. If you have manual labor experience, talk about your technical background, equipment certifications or unique skills you might have.

How quickly can you adapt?

With temporary positions, you may be asked to take on new roles, learn new skills or adapt to new environments with little notice. Explain how you are willing and able to adjust to the needs of the company.

Be Kind, Respectful and Support One Another

By | Forge Cares, Job Tips, Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Like we’ve said before, it’s important that we be there for one another during this trying time. Restaurants, bars, and other small businesses took a big hit when they were mandated to close more than a week ago. Many of these restaurants and bars have come up with other ways to support themselves by offering services they’ve never done before such as, take-out and delivery. Just because you can’t eat at your favorite restaurant doesn’t mean you can’t have their food, or drink.  There are some restaurants that have created designated pick up spots, so they can bring your food to you without actually coming into contact with you. Other restaurants are offering restaurant-made meal kits to take home and make yourself, which is also a great activity to pass time. It’s vital that we still do our best to try and support our local restaurants and bars in any way we can. If you’re not comfortable leaving the house to get pick up food, you may also support local business by buying their merchandise or gift cards to use at a later time. If you don’t have the funds to purchase anything from them at this moment, take a moment to share a post on social media encouraging others to do so. It may not seem like much, but it’s still support for those who need it most. It’s the little things that make a big impact in the end.

When we say we’re all in this together, we really are ALL IN THIS TOGETHER. What is affecting your right now in during this time, whether it be stress, anxiety, or fear, could just as likely be affecting someone else as well. That’s why it’s so important that we continue to be supportive, kind, and respectful to one another. This isn’t an easy situation for anyone to go through. Some of us may be still working while others are required to stay home. No matter the situation you are in, please remember to be respectful to everyone around you. Say thank you more than you normally would. Thank the employees at the grocery store stocking shelves to keep up with the demand. Thank your local delivery man, cop, or fireman. It’s as simple as sharing a shout out on social media to all those who are still working. Encourage one another to show a little extra appreciation during this time. Those little acts of appreciation is what keeps them going.

Please continue washing your hands and sanitizing, as this is one of the most effective ways of preventing the spread of the virus.

Free, Fun Educational Tools to Take Advantage of While Stuck at Home

By | Forge Cares | No Comments

Many children are being homeschooled at the moment and by now most parents are realizing that being a teacher is a harder job than they had thought. Learning from home creates different challenges that wouldn’t necessarily be a problem while physically in school. Children get distracted and comfortable in their own homes, not realizing that education still needs to be a priority during times like these. Though there are challenges to adjust to and overcome, there shouldn’t be a reason your children’s education is halted. Back in the day being able to teach from home would be much trickier, why? Because we didn’t have the advanced technology that we do today. Technology gives you a great opportunity to continue feeding your children knowledge through different ways of learning.

You’ve probably spent a decent amount of time seeking out online resources, apps, games etc. to keep your children’s minds engaged while spending so much time at home. There are several free or discounted online learning resources for pre-K-12 to choose from to keep up on learning. Below is a list of a couple of online learning resources that you can take advantage of, as well as a link to an extensive list of education companies offering free subscriptions.

  • Scholastic : Offering a free Learn at Home program which includes 20 days’ worth of curricula.
  • Khan Academy : A free online learning platform that offers practice exercises, instructional videos, and a personalized learning dashboard.
  • Outschool : Offering free live online classes for students ages 3 – 18 conducted over video chat.

Does your child love learning about animals? There are multiple zoos and aquariums all over the country doing their best to fill the void of children’s activities with “home safaris,” virtual tours and webcams. Children have the opportunity to watch some of their favorite animals being interacted with by zookeepers while learning some new facts about them.  Below is a list of several zoos and aquariums currently participating in these home safaris.

Many museums are also offering tours that you can enjoy from home. Below is a link to some museums offering these virtual tours.

Need another idea to keep your children, (and maybe you) entertained? Check out the Save With Stories Instagram account. Save With Stories was launched by Jennifer Garner and Amy Adams. It raises money for the organizations Save the Children and No Kid Hungry. The account itself has multiple videos of celebrities reading children’s books aloud to entertain, educate and distract kids and parents who are practicing social distancing. Who doesn’t love watching videos of their favorite celebrities?

During this time, remember to be supportive, kind, and respectful to one another. You have no idea how stressed someone may be, or what they may be going through personally.

If your job was recently affected by the outbreak, Forge has temporary jobs available to help you get through this.
