March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Espanol

Hello!

Did you know that March is Workplace Eye Wellness Month?

Common causes of workplace eye injuries are flying debris like metal pieces or glass, tools, chemicals, harmful radiation, and eye strain due to digital devices. Most injuries occur when eye protection is worn but it is improper or ill-fitting and when eye protection is not worn at all.  Luckily, almost all workplace eye injuries are preventable with the use of proper safety eyewear.

To prevent an eye injury at work, adhere to the following tips:

  • Know the eye safety hazards at work. Not sure?  Ask your supervisor.
  • Eliminate hazards before starting work. Use machine guarding, work screens or other engineering controls.
  • Use proper eye protection that correctly fits such as non-prescription or prescription safety glasses, goggles, face shields, welding helmets or full-face respirators.
  • Never remove your eye protection and rub your eye with a dirty hand or glove.  Always remove gloves and wash hands prior to touching your eyes or any part of your face.

Do you have a safety tip you would like to share with our team?  Feel free, at any time, to reply with a tip!  We would love to hear from you! In fact, we will reward you with a free gift for helping out!

The Forge Safety Team is here to help you!  We always want to keep you and other employees of Forge safe while on the job.  This means we often need your help in communicating anything you feel is unsafe.

Hello!

Our life outside of the workplace may not be as busy as it was pre pandemic however we still need to make sure we are moving around.  More often our personal time is spent in front of the TV, laying on the couch, sitting around taking in more screen time, etc.  Here are a few ways to get more active to help in your everyday body movements.

  1. Stretch every morning when you get up and every night before bed.
  2. Walk in place or around the house during commercial breaks.
  3. Walk in place or do light yoga during your favorite tv shows.
  4. Take 5 min breaks to do the above during screen time.

Every little bit of movement outside of work can make a huge difference when you are on the constant move during work hours.

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Hola,

Make Safety Your New Year’s Resolution

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Espanol

Hello!

Please join the Forge Safety Team in making safety your New Year’s Resolution! Let us start with preventing accidents from happening.  Do you know what a “Near Miss” is?  Reporting a near miss to the Safety Team can help prevent you and others from injury.

NEAR MISSES

– defined as an unplanned event that has the potential to cause, but does not result in human injury, environmental damage, or an interruption to normal operation.

NEAR MISSES are potential safety concerns and should be reported to your supervisor IMMEDIATELY so corrective action can be taken.

Failure to report NEAR MISSES could result in potential injury to yourself or others.

Happy New Year and welcome to 2021!

2020 was a rough year for most individuals and everything we knew as “normal” was changed.  This is a friendly reminder that at midnight January 1, 2021 everything will stay the same. We want to continue self-care and good hygiene for ourselves and for those around us to remain safe. So please, as we go into 2021 continue to:

– Wash or sanitize your hands often (before eating or preparing food, before touching your face, after using the restroom, after leaving a public place, after blowing your nose, after handling your mask, after changing a diaper, after caring for someone who is sick, after touching animals or pets)
– Avoid close contact (in your home, avoid close contact with those who are sick. Out of your home, put 6 feet of distance between yourself and people who do not live in your household).
– Cover your mouth and nose with a mask when around others
– Cover coughs and sneezes (be sure to throw used tissues in the trash.  Wash hands immediately)
– Clean and disinfect surfaces daily
– Monitor your health daily (if you are not feeling well contact your doctor immediately and stay home until directed otherwise by your doctor)

The Forge Safety Team is here to help you!  We always want to keep you and other employees of Forge safe while on the job.  This means we often need your help in communicating anything you feel is unsafe.

El año 2020 fue un ano duro para mucha gente y todo lo que conocimos ser “normal” ha cambiado. Les queremos recordar que, al dar la media noche en enero 1, 2021 todo será lo mismo. Queremos seguir practicando los mismos pasos que hemos hecho empezando, con seguir cuidándose y seguir lavándose las manos. No solo para usted, pero para toda la gente alrededor de usted. Por favor prosiga;

Avoid Slips, Trips, and Falls This Winter

By | Tips for Job Seekers | No Comments

Espanol

Hello!

Often times the weather takes a drastic turn in December lasting many months into the Spring.  We want everyone to remember to be safe when walking into and out of the workplace.  Here are some safety tips to remember:

  • Focus on your footing. Watch where you walk. Concentrate on getting from point A to point B safely.
  • Walk like a penguin. Use short, slow steps.
  • Do not use your cell phone while walking from the parking lot or on entryway stairs into the building.
  • Use handrails on entryway stairs and do not rush.
  • Be aware of changes in walking surfaces. Many falls are caused when people do not realize they are leaving non-slippery surfaces for slippery ones.
  • Free up your hands. Use a carrying case with a shoulder strap for extra belongings including your lunch.
  • Wear appropriate footwear —smooth-soled shoes.
  • Step down and not out when getting out of a vehicle. Swing both legs out. Place both feet on the ground and use hands for support.
  • Step down off curbs, not out. Landing on your heel first instead of flat footed can cause a fall.
  • Use authorized paths. If it is not clear of snow, do not use it. No shortcuts.
  • Report unsafe conditions to a supervisor or maintenance person so they may clear the paths and lay sidewalk salt.

The Forge Safety Team is here to help you!  We always want to keep you and other employees of Forge safe while on the job.  This means we often need your help in communicating anything you feel is unsafe.
