Getting organized to meet with a staffing agency

November 20, 2020

Agencies are here to help you be successful and find work, but there are things you can do ahead of time to help increase your chances for finding the right fit. Taking time to prepare for these frequently asked questions is a great way to get a head start when seeking work through an agency.

What is your availability?

The staffing agency will be interested in when and how often you’re able to work. They will likely ask if you are interested in short-term and/or long-term positions. Being honest about what you’re able to commit to will help prevent conflicts in the future. Try to be flexible. If you’re able to work nights and weekends this may open up more opportunities.

What are your skills?

You should already have many, if not all, of these skills listed on your resume, and the interviewer should have a copy. This is an opportunity to elaborate on what is on your resume, to show that you are willing to sell yourself beyond what is on a sheet of paper. Discuss any administrative experience, data entry or work with word processing or spreadsheets. If you have manual labor experience, talk about your technical background, equipment certifications or unique skills you might have.

How quickly can you adapt?

With temporary positions, you may be asked to take on new roles, learn new skills or adapt to new environments with little notice. Explain how you are willing and able to adjust to the needs of the company.
