Forge Cares supports Grand Rapids shelter for abused women

August 22, 2015

Through the Forge Cares program, staffers at Forge Industrial Staffing work with a number of charitable activities in Indiana and Michigan.

In western Michigan, the Forge Cares team works with “Run in the Name of Love,” which raises awareness regarding domestic abuse. In Grand Rapids, the run raises money for Safe Haven Ministries.

Safe Haven, founded in 1990, provides residential and non-residential services to abused women and their families. Safe Haven Ministries helps women heal by empowering them and supporting them. It is recognized for its ability to help women draw on their faith to help them during the healing process.

One in three women, approximately 36 million, have been slapped, pushed or otherwise hurt in some way by an intimate partner at least once during their lives. Over 15 million children in the United States live in a household where partner violence occurred at least once within the past year. The number of children living in households where severe partner violence occurs is approximately 7 million.

Safe Haven Ministries helps women and children in abusive situations realize that they are not the only ones with that problem.

Types of Services

Safe Haven’s emergency shelter, Ramoth House, is fully confidential and provides case management and support for women and children while they are staying there. Non-residential services include case management, support groups, and a trauma intervention program. Some of these support groups and other programs are for the women, while some are for their children. A confidential, 24-hour hotline is available.

In addition, Safe Haven provides training to employers, schools, faith communities and other organizations to educate people in abuse prevention. An organization wanting to request such training can visit their website, where they will find a link taking them to information about how they can request training.
